Armenians of Mukus (Moks) Remembered

Armenians of Mukus (Moks) Remembered –

Merkur Haber (Van) has a nice Turkish-language article on the memory of Armenians in the Mukus (Moks) region, south of Lake Van. Sympathetic to Armenians, the article points out that despite the efforts of the Turkish state to change original Armenian village names to Turkish ones, the locals still use the original names. According to the article, 90% of these village names are Armenian. Such articles show, once more, that there are still people in Turkey who choose to bear witness to a terrible past that official Turkey wants us to forget.

Ara Sarafian

Before the Armenian Genocide in 1915 the district contained sixty villages, forty of which were inhabited by Armenians.
