AYF Canada Camp Vanadzor 2016
AYF Canada Camp Vanadzor 2016
Following in the footsteps of AYF Western Region’s Youth Corps initiative in the city of Gyumri, the Armenian Youth Federation of Canada began a camp in Vanadzor in the summer of 2011, the third largest city in Armenia. The idea was to organize a free two-week camp for local children aged 8-14, many from the nearby orphanage and other disadvantage families.
Apart from games and activities, the children are provided the opportunity to receive lessons on English, computers, health, ARF history and citizenship. The children are also provided with a daily lunch and snack as well as a backpack full of school supplies.
Of course, none of this would be possible without our self-sacrificing and dedicated members. The camp seeks volunteers to dedicate two weeks in Armenia. For those two weeks, volunteers will work at the camp as counsellors, implementing a predetermined curriculum and supervising their arranged group. Past volunteers have described the experience as both challenging and rewarding.
