Armenian church damaged by treasure hunters in Turkey –
ARMENPRESS. Historical Armenian Church Surp Asdvadzadzin in Erzincan (Yerznka) has been targeted by adventurous treasure hunters. As “Armenpress” reports, Armenian “Agos” newspaper of Istanbul informs that due to diggings of the treasure hunters the church has been substantially damaged.
Tolga Gürün, who lives near the church, informed “Agos” that icons of the church had been stolen 5 years ago. He warns that if no security measures are taken, the damage of the church would increase.
The church had to be restored by Erzincan Governorate but after the new Governor occupied the position no steps were taken connected with its restoration. The examinations that were undertaken showed that there is a collapse on the second floor.
