Press TV – At least five Turkish police officers have been killed and three others injured in separate attacks blamed on militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the troubled southeastern part of the country.

Turkish security sources said the PKK militants detonated a remote-controlled bomb early on Wednesday as a police vehicle was passing in the Nusaybin district in Mardin Province. Three policemen were killed and another was wounded in the attack.

Following the incident, police set up checkpoints across the district as they started to hunt down the attackers.

Meanwhile, another attack carried out by PKK militants claimed the lives of two policemen and injured two others in the Hakkari Province close to the border with Iraq.

The sources also said that nine PKK fighters were killed during clashes with Turkish security forces elsewhere in the country’s mainly Kurdish region.

Also on Wednesday, Turkey’s attack helicopters launched airstrikes on PKK militants in the Eruh district in the southern province of Siirt. Six PKK militants were killed in the clashes.

Elsewhere in the province, three PKK militants were killed as they attempted to infiltrate into a base in the Pervari district.
