Armenia to receive $7.9 million from Global Environment Facility for preserving biodiversity –
ARKA – The Global Environment Facility will provide $7.9 million to Armenia under the 2014-2018 program for prevention of climate change, protection of biological diversity and preservation of soil.
Armenia will submit its proposals to the Global Environment Facility before the end of this year.
At a special session focused on cooperation between the Armenian nature protection ministry and the Global Environment Facility, Aramayis Grigoryan, Armenia’s environment minister, proposed to present scientifically grounded solutions to the environmental problems within one week.
“The proposals shouldn’t be repetitions of foreign solutions – they should be feasible and effective,” he said.
The Global Environment Facility was established in October 1991 as a $1 billion pilot program in the World Bank to assist in the protection of the global environment and to promote environmental sustainable development.
