Pashinyan signals readiness for constitutional changes to secure peace deal with Azerbaijan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reaffirmed that Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other’s territorial integrity as defined during the Soviet Union era.
Speaking at the Yerevan Dialogue international forum on Monday, he emphasized that the draft peace treaty contains a clause in which both parties declare they have no territorial claims against one another and commit not to raise any such claims in the future.
Pashinyan also highlighted another key provision that neither side may invoke its domestic legislation as a reason to avoid implementing the peace agreement.
He added that once the peace agreement is signed, it must be submitted to Armenia’s Constitutional Court to check its compliance with the national constitution.
Should the court deem the document unconstitutional, Pashinyan stated he would initiate the necessary constitutional changes. If the court raises no objections, the treaty will proceed to the parliament for ratification.
