French-Armenian perfumer Francis Kurkdjian receives France’s Legion of Honour

(Horizon Media / PARIS) — Renowned French-Armenian perfumer Francis Kurkdjian has been appointed a Knight of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest national distinction, in recognition of his contributions to French culture and the international fragrance industry.
Kurkdjian was among 619 individuals named in France’s 2026 civilian honors list, announced through decrees signed by President Emmanuel Macron. The recipients were recognized for achievements in culture, science, healthcare, business, sports, public service and community life.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential perfumers of his generation, Kurkdjian has created fragrances for several leading fashion and luxury houses. He is also the co-founder of Maison Francis Kurkdjian and currently serves as perfume creation director at Christian Dior.
A number of other prominent cultural figures were appointed Knights of the Legion of Honor, including author Philippe Besson, actresses Rachida Brakni and Clémentine Célarié, filmmakers Xavier Giannoli and Rebecca Zlotowski, artist Eva Jospin and fashion designer Paloma Picasso. Actress Natalie Portman was also honored as a foreign national residing in France.
This year’s list includes 518 Knights, 79 Officers, 16 Commanders, four Grand Officers and two recipients of the Grand Cross, the order’s highest rank.
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde was elevated to Grand Officer, while Nobel Prize-winning physicist Serge Haroche and historian Michelle Perrot received the Grand Cross. Actor Pierre Arditi and former France Télévisions chief Patrick de Carolis, currently the mayor of Arles, were named Commanders.
Former French international footballer Marius Trésor was promoted to Officer, while several former government ministers were appointed Knights.
