Diasporan Perspectives launches call for research on the contemporary Armenian Diaspora

(Horizon Media) – Diasporan Perspectives, a think tank founded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in 2025, has launched a call for research proposals examining the Armenian Diaspora in the 21st century.

The initiative aims to produce an original edited volume, or multivolume publication, exploring the current state and future direction of Armenian communities, institutions and individuals worldwide. Selected papers will be commissioned, peer reviewed and published as part of the project.

Researchers are invited to submit abstracts of up to 400 words addressing contemporary diasporan issues from a range of disciplinary and theoretical perspectives. Proposed studies may focus on established and emerging communities, diasporan institutions, political activism, philanthropy, education, language preservation, youth engagement, digital spaces, cultural production, migration and relations with Armenia and host countries.

The project is particularly interested in the transformation of historic communities in the Middle East, the formation of newer communities in Europe and elsewhere, relations between established and recent Armenian migrants, and the impact of independent Armenia on diasporan identity and organisation.

Policy-oriented submissions are also welcome, particularly those offering practical proposals on education and language revitalisation, youth participation, community leadership and institutional renewal.

Applications may be submitted by individuals or research teams in English or French. Each applicant may submit only one proposal, and all materials must be sent in PDF format.

The application package must include the abstract, a brief cover note, a CV and a list of publications or previous research projects.

The deadline for submissions is September 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. GMT. Applications should be emailed to info@diasporanperspectives.org with the subject line “DP diaspora research project proposal.”

Successful applicants will be notified by November 15, 2026. First drafts will be due by March 31, 2027, with final papers expected by July 31, 2027. Accepted papers are scheduled to be submitted to a publisher in 2028.
