Trump endorses Pashinyan in direct intervention in Armenia’s elections

(Horizon Media) – U.S. President Donald Trump publicly endorsed Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ahead of Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections in a Truth Social post that amounted to a direct intervention into Armenia’s domestic political process by a foreign head of state.
In the statement, Trump described Pashinyan as “a great friend and Leader” and praised his government’s regional policies, particularly the recently announced “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) initiative signed between Armenia and the United States during U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent visit to Yerevan.
Trump wrote that the project would “transform the South Caucasus” while helping American energy companies secure expanded access from Central Asia “all the way to the United States.” He also declared that Pashinyan had his “COMPLETE and TOTAL Endorsement” for re-election in Armenia’s June 7 vote.
The statement stood out not only for its open endorsement of a candidate during Armenia’s election campaign, but also for the manner in which Armenia’s regional future was framed primarily through American geopolitical and economic priorities. Much of the message focused on U.S. strategic interests, energy access and regional influence, with Armenia presented as a central component of a broader American-led project in the South Caucasus and Central Asia.
Trump concluded the post by stating that, with Pashinyan’s support, the United States, Armenia, the South Caucasus and Central Asia would reach “greater heights than ever before,” before ending with the slogan: “Make (Armenia) Great Again — MAGA!”
Neither the Armenian government nor opposition parties had officially responded to the statement at the time of publication.
