Gymnast Hamlet Manukyan performs a new element named after him at the Paris tournament

18-year-old Armenian gymnast Hamlet Manukyan successfully passed the qualification round at the World Challenge Cup ranking series in Paris. The reigning European champion took 6th place on the pommel horse with a score of 14.133.

The highlight of the qualification was that Manukyan performed a brand-new element on the pommel horse, which is now officially named after him — the “Manukyan.”

Thus, the young gymnast continued the glorious tradition of the Armenian school of artistic gymnastics. Over the years, elements have been named after:

Grant Shahinian (pommel horse),
Albert Azaryan (rings),
Artur Akopyan (vault),
Vaagn Stepanyan (pommel horse),
Vaagn Davtyan (rings),
Houry Gebeshian (uneven bars),
Artur Davtyan (pommel horse).
