Paris 2024: Armenia’s Artur Aleksanyan wins 9-5, advances to semifinals
Artur Aleksanyan of Armenia won in a tense fight and reached the semifinals in Men’s Greco-Roman Wrestling at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games being held in Paris.
In the quarterfinals of the 97kg category, the Olympic gold, silver and bronze medalist, four-time world champion, and seven-time European champion faced Rustam Assakalov (Uzbekistan)—the world silver and bronze medalist, Asian Games champion, and three-time Asia champion—and won 9-5.
In his opening match, Aleksanyan had won ahead of time, with a score of 9-0, in the bout against Kim Seungjun (South Korea)—the 2014 World Youth Championships silver medalist, 2017 Asian Championships silver medalist, 2021 Asian Championships silver medalist, and 2024 Asian zone Olympic ranking tournament winner.
Paris 2024 is Artur Aleksanyan’s fourth Olympic Games.
