Turkish Media: Serbian Snipers Fighting With PKK –

Belgrade (B92) – The Serbian embassy has reacted to reports in Turkish media about the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) allegedly using Serbian snipers “in terrorist attacks.”

The embassy said it expects to receive official information about the allegations, adding that “Serbia is against its citizens engaging in foreign conflicts.”

“Serbia has passed the law that severely sanctions any such activity. The claims cannot and should not be in any case or way linked to the official policy or activities of Serbia and its institutions,” reads a release sent to Turkish media on Sunday.

In addition, the embassy said it expects the Turkish side to offer “official information” so that “relevant Turkish and Serbia institutions could work together on shedding light on this case with the goal of fighting against terrorism.”

This reaction came after some Turkish media reported that “new intelligence indicated that PKK organizations in Europe were recruiting Serbian snipers, and that one of the three PKK snipers, who was killed in the city of Cizre in southeastern Turkey, was a Serbian national.”

A Serbian sniper of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) was killed while another was captured alive, daily Vatan reported, while claiming at least five other hit men are currently operating in southeastern Turkey.
