Dr. Harold Albrecht Receives “Spirit of Armenia” Award At CANAR official banquet
Under the Auspices of His Grace, Bishop Meghrig Parikian, Prelate, the annual Canadian Armenian National Assembly Representatives (CANAR) meeting was held at the Sourp Nishan Armenian Apostolic Church in Cambridge, Ontario from May 22 to 23, 2015.
The 2-day meeting primarily concentrated on the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide the Armenian youth and Christian education, among other topics and issues.
The meeting elected Prelacy’s 2015-2016 Religious and Executive Council members. Religious Council members are Very Rev. Fr. Sdepanos Pashayan, Very Rev. Fr. Vartan Tashjian and Archpriest Karnig Koyounian. Lay Council members are Mr. Levon Bengian, Mr. Hagop Boulgarian, Mr. Krikor Der Ghazarian, Mr. Harout Kassabian, Mrs. Osana Mksyartinian, Mr. Vatche Panossian, Ms. Juliette Sarkissian, Mrs. Zovig Terzian and Mr. Mike Titizian.
This year’s meeting drew the participation of representatives and clergy from all of the Prelacy’s churches, as well as the World Assembly delegates, Cilician Princes and Knights, Mesrob Mashdots medal recipients, representatives of sister organizations and more than 50 Representatives from across Canada.
Spirit of Armenia
On the opening night of the meeting, an official banquet was held for the bestowment of the “Spirit of Armenia” award, upon Dr. Harold Albrecht (a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party of Canada in the riding of Kitchener—Conestoga) by Prelate Parikian and the Executive Council for standing shoulder to shoulder with our community throughout our journey towards the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in Canada, for being a vocal representative in Parliament and for being a true friend to the Armenian community. Dr. Albrecht is also the Chair of the Canada-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Chemical Caucus.
The “Spirit of Armenia” is awarded to dignitaries as a gratitude and appreciation for their genuine friendship, devotion and exceptional service to the Canadian Armenian Community and the Armenian Nation.
Prelate Parikian along with Executive Council’s chairperson Mr. Krikor Der Ghazarian, presented the Anglican Grace Church, Author Marsha Skrypuch, and Mr. Carl Georgian with an official Armenian Prelacy of Canada “Armenian Genocide Centenary Recognition Award” for their support and service to the Armenian community.
His Grace Bishop Meghrig Parikian, Prelate of Canada, delivered closing remarks and prayer.
