Opposition MP demands investigation into Pashinyan’s accusations

Gegham Manukyan, an MP from the Armenia faction, has submitted a report to the director of the National Security Service (NSS), Armen Abazyan, concerning Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent accusations against the opposition. Manukyan announced this during parliamentary faction briefings, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

During a Q&A session with the government, Prime Minister Pashinyan openly accused the opposition of staging a video in which people were filmed singing an Azerbaijani song about Karabakh in Yerevan’s Republic Square. He claimed he would not be surprised if the opposition had arranged for Iranian citizens to participate in the act, record it, and spread it online to damage Armenia-Iran relations.

Pashinyan also accused the opposition of maintaining “beacons” on Armenian territory to mark targets for strikes and legitimizing attacks against Armenia through their activities.

In response, Manukyan insisted that the NSS must investigate the prime minister’s statements, emphasizing that such claims cannot go unanswered.

“Let’s see who is waging a hybrid war against Armenia, who is using foreign rhetoric in our country, and who is working against the Armenian people,” Manukyan stated.

On January 30, a video surfaced online showing a group of people singing in Azerbaijani about Karabakh in Republic Square, sparking widespread reactions. The following day, the NSS identified the singers as Iranian citizens. Garib Babayan, who disseminated the video, was arrested on February 1, but the court denied the request for his detention.
