(Horizon Media / YEREVAN) – Heritage Foundation’s latest Index of Economic Freedom ranks Armenia 52nd out of 176 countries, marking an improvement from its 57th-place position a year earlier. The country’s score has increased to around 67 points, maintaining its classification as a “moderately free” economy.
Armenia continues to stand out regionally, ranking as the top-performing country within the Eurasian Economic Union. It also places ahead of several European Union member states, including Spain, Romania, France, Italy, Greece, and Hungary, highlighting its comparatively stronger performance in key economic freedom indicators.
The index evaluates economies across multiple pillars, including rule of law, government size, regulatory efficiency, and open markets. While Armenia performs relatively well in areas such as regulatory frameworks and market openness, structural challenges remain, particularly in judicial effectiveness, property rights, and government integrity, which continue to weigh on its overall score.
Globally, Singapore, Switzerland, and Ireland continue to lead the rankings, reflecting high levels of economic openness and institutional strength.
