Armenian MFA Spokesman: Racist remarks made by Erdogan are breeding fertile ground for crimes  –

Such statements are breeding fertile ground for crimes motivated by ethnicity, as was the murder of Hrant Dink, Spokesman of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan said in response to ArmInfo’s request to comment on Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan’s disgraceful statement where he considered the fact of being called Armenian as an insult.

“Such racist statements do not bring honor to anybody, particularly to a head of a state. It is appalling that the author of that statement is doing it during a pre-election period, thus expecting that it might get extra votes. Such expressions of racism lay in the roots of genocide implementation and the latter’s denialism,” Balayan said.

When asked about his family background in an interview with NTV, Erdogan said, “I was called a Georgian. I apologize for this, but they even said [something] worse: They called me an Armenian. But I’m a Turk.”
