Another Armenian soldier killed in the Karabagh conflict zone

Another Armenian soldier killed in the Karabagh conflict zone –

An Armenian serviceman has been killed in the eastern direction of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact, according to the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic’s Defense Ministry.

The report says Armen Avetisyan, born in 1995, received a fatal gun wound while on duty in a combat position late on Tuesday.

This is the second Armenian soldier killed in the Karabakh conflict zone since last week. Another Armenian serviceman was killed by Azeri troops last week at the border with Nakhijevan, an Azerbaijani exclave to the southwest of Armenia.

The situation along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has remained tense since last month. At least four Armenian servicemen, two of them at the border with Nakhijevan, were killed in late May-early June amid escalating tensions.

The latest fatalities come amid repeated calls for a meeting between the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan for fresh talks around the longstanding conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
