80th Anniversary of ‘The Forty Days of Musa Dagh’ Celebrated in Vienna


The original manuscript of Franz Werfel’s famous novel on display during the commemorative event

VIENNA—On the 80th anniversary of the first publication of Austrian writer Franz Werfel’s novel The Forty Days of Musa Dagh, a cultural ceremony was organized in Vienna through the joint efforts of the Armenian embassy in Austria, the Armenian Genocide Museum Institute, the Armenian Apostolic Church in Austria, Austrian radio, and the Austrian Literature Society.

The event was attended by representatives of the Armenian community in Austria and by Austrian writers and scholars. Ambassador of Armenia in Austria, Arman Kirakosyan, made a welcoming speech.

During the event, director of the Armenian Genocide Museum Institute, Dr. Hayk Demoyan, presented photographs from the Armenian Genocide Museum collection related to the heroic resistance of Musa Dagh.

The event was followed by a concert. For the special occasion of the anniversary, the original manuscript of Franz Werfel’s famous novel was borrowed from the Austrian National Library to be placed on display.
