PRAGUE—Armenia’s national soccer team won their World Cup qualifying game Friday against the Czech Republic with a dramatic 90th minute goal from Gevorg Ghazaryan, making the score 2-1 for Armenia.

Armenian midfielder Karlen Mkrtchyan opened the scoring at the 31st minute with a powerful, swerving shot from well outside the box that went past goalkeeper Petr Cech’s reaching dive.

The Czech side equalized at the 70th minute with a goal that was a long way coming after a period of putting Armenia under pressure.

However, Armenia would have the last word as Ghazaryan clenched the three points for Armenia.

Armenia are now in 4th place in their World Cup qualifying group, sitting under Italy, Bulgaria, and the Czech Republic, who have the same number of points as Armenia, but an advantage in goal difference.

Armenia’s next game is against Denmark on Tuesday, September 10, in Yerevan.
