Armenian Parliament Speaker Meets Canadian Ambassador to Discuss Bilateral Cooperation

YEREVAN – Armenian National Assembly Speaker Ruben Rubinyan met with Canada’s Ambassador to Armenia, Julie Crowley, on November 2 to discuss the development of bilateral relations and opportunities for closer cooperation.

Rubinyan congratulated the newly appointed ambassador and wished her success in her diplomatic mission.

According to the Armenian Parliament’s press service, the discussions focused on strengthening Armenian–Canadian relations, expanding cooperation and reinforcing interparliamentary ties. Both sides emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing the bilateral agenda.

Ambassador Crowley, who formally presented her credentials to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan on October 7, has also been engaging with representatives across Armenia’s political landscape.

On October 30, she met with members of the opposition Strong Armenia parliamentary faction, including faction leader Narek Karapetyan and Deputy Speaker Aram Vardevanyan.

During that meeting, opposition representatives raised concerns about Armenia’s domestic political environment, democratic institutions and judicial independence. The discussions also addressed regional developments and the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process.

Canada’s growing diplomatic presence in Armenia provides additional opportunities to deepen cooperation and strengthen dialogue between the two countries.

Beyond bilateral economic and institutional matters, Armenian national interests would be served by sustained Canadian engagement on the rights of displaced Artsakh Armenians, the release of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan and the security challenges confronting the region.

The continued development of Armenian–Canadian relations remains an important opportunity to reinforce diplomatic cooperation while keeping human rights and regional stability on the bilateral agenda.
