(Horizon Weekly / YEREVAN) – The President of the Republic of Armenia has signed a decree officially setting June 7 as the date for Armenia’s next regular parliamentary elections.
The decree, published on the president’s official website, will enter into force the day after its official release.
According to the document, the decision is based on Article 91 of the Constitution, which stipulates that regular elections to the National Assembly must be held no earlier than 60 days and no later than 50 days before the expiration of the legislature’s term.
Several political forces have already declared their intention to participate. The ruling Civil Contract party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, is expected to seek another term. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF-Dashnaktsutyun) has also confirmed it will take part, likely as part of an electoral bloc. Other opposition forces, including former president Robert Kocharyan, have announced plans to contest the vote with the Armenia Alliance, while former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan and former Yerevan mayor Hayk Marutyan have also signalled their participation through separate political initiatives. The Armenian National Congress has nominated Levon Zurabyan as its prime ministerial candidate. A newer contender, the “Our Way” (Mer Dzevov) movement, led by billionaire businessman Samvel Karapetyan, has also signalled its participation, with its coordinator, Narek Karapetyan, poised to top its list as it prepares to formally register for the elections. Meanwhile, the Republican Party, led by former president Serzh Sargsyan, has not yet confirmed its plans.
With the decree now in place, Armenia has formally entered the countdown to its next parliamentary vote.
