Armenian Genocide Resolution has five new U.S. House Co-Sponsors
Five more Members of Congress have co-sponsored H.Res.296 – the bipartisan resolution locking in permanent U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) reports.
ANCA has welcomed Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA), Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO)
Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA), Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) and Doug LaMalfa as new co-sponsors.
The House is likely to take up a resolution to condemn the 1915-1917 Armenian genocide after House Democrats set it up to clear a key committee hurdle next week.
The House Rules Committee is set to announce Thursday that it is going to take up the resolution next week, a final formal process before it can receive a vote.
H.Res. 296 was introduced this April by Reps. Schiff and Bilirakis along with Reps. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Peter King (R-NY), and Jackie Speier (D-CA), and has 112 co-sponsors to date.
