Trans-Asia train line between Ankara and Tehran attacked in Bingol, Turkey –

BGN News – A passenger train traveling from Ankara to Tehran was hit by a mine in Turkey’s eastern province of Bingöl, in an attack suspected of being the work of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). There were no casualties, though there was significant damage on both the wagons and the rails.

Bingöl Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger told Turkey’s state-run Anatolia News Agency that a mine laid on the rails between the Suveren and Genç stations by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) had been detonated by remote control just as a Trans-Asia train traveling from Ankara to Tehran passed overhead.

It was noted that there were no casualties, though there was significant damage to the wagon and the rails. The train continued on its way.

Many security teams have arrived on the scene and are conducting a thorough investigation.

The PKK has waged an armed separatist war against Turkey for over 30 years, resulting in more than 40,000 casualties, and until last week, had maintained a rocky truce with Ankara since 2013.
