(Horizon Weekly) – Armenian American producer Sev Ohanian’s film Sinners won four Academy Awards at the 2026 Oscars, capping a historic awards season for one of the year’s most celebrated films.
The film earned Oscars for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Michael B. Jordan, Best Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler, Best Original Score for Ludwig Göransson, and Best Cinematography for Autumn Durald Arkapaw.
Produced by Ohanian alongside Ryan Coogler and Zinzi Coogler, Sinners entered the ceremony with a record-breaking 16 nominations, the highest number ever received by a film in Academy Awards history. The film has also been a major commercial success, grossing approximately $368 million worldwide and receiving widespread critical acclaim throughout the awards season.
The recognition also marked an important milestone for Armenian representation in global cinema. Ohanian became the first Armenian American ever nominated for Best Picture as a producer, and only the second Armenian to receive such a nomination after British Armenian producer Tanya Seghatchian, who was nominated in 2022 for The Power of the Dog.
Speaking after the ceremony, Ohanian expressed pride in the team behind the film, saying the experience of celebrating their achievements at the Academy Awards was unforgettable.
Earlier in the season, Sinners also won the Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, while Göransson received the Golden Globe for Best Original Score.
The success of Sinners comes amid a notable period of visibility for Armenian talent in international cinema. At the 2025 Academy Awards, Sean Baker’s Anora made history as the first film featuring Armenian dialogue to win multiple Oscars, including Best Picture.
