Armenia’s Simon Martirosyan becomes European weightlifting champion

Simon Martirosyan of Armenia won the champion’s title in the European Weightlifting Championship in Split, Croatia.
In the clean and jerk exercise (a two-movement weightlifting exercise in which a weight is raised above the head following an initial lift to shoulder level) the sportsman’s total result was 414kg (184+230).
Bulgaria’s Vasil Gospodinov (397kg) won the second place, with Arkadiush Michalski of Poland (387kg) coming in the third.
Samvel Gasparyan, another representative of Armenia, placed sixth with 375kg.
This was Armenia’s third medal at the 2017 European Weightlifting Championships. Earlier, Sona Poghosyan (Women’s 75 kg) and Tatev Hakobyan (Women’s 90 kg) had won bronze medals in their respective weight divisions.
