Azerbaijan leader calls Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace project a ‘piece of paper,’ demands ‘Zangezur corridor’ again

Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev has made another brazen threat and demand to Armenia. The Azerbaijani leader clearly timed his speech to coincide with Armenian Army Day.
“Armenia has put forward the so-called ‘Crossroads of Peace’ project, and there is hardly a country left in the world where this project has not been presented. However, this so-called project is worth nothing without Azerbaijan,” said president Aliyev during a meeting dedicated to Azerbaijan’s transportation issues.
“If you truly want to implement this project, you must first engage with Azerbaijan. Because without us, it is merely a piece of paper. Our terms are fair, grounded in international law, and based on Armenia’s own commitments,” Aliyev added.
Developing the topic, the Azerbaijani leader reported that, “Both on the international stage and in bilateral contacts with Armenia, we consistently emphasize one point: there must be unhindered passage from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan. There must be smooth and unrestricted passage from Azerbaijan to Azerbaijan, without any inspections or obstacles. This is our demand.”
“After our victory in the Second Karabakh War, this issue was brought to the international agenda and entered international terminology. Today, the Zangezur corridor is a widely accepted term and expression. Of course, we are taking practical steps for the opening of this corridor,” Aliyev pledged.
To note, the document to which Aliyev refers assumes the opening of regional communications, but not a single word is mentioned in it about the absence of control and inspections. Also, the document contained many other points that Azerbaijan itself did not fulfill. And after the Azerbaijani occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh, the statement, which, however, had no legal force in essence, completely lost its meaning.
