The number of tourists visiting Armenia expected to reach one million for the first time –
ARKA – The number of foreign tourists visiting Armenia is expected to surge to one million people a year, Marina Kpryan from the Association of Armenian Tour Operators told a news conference.
“The number of tourists visiting Armenia is growing from year to year. Last year we had about 800,000 foreign visitors and we expect this number to increase to one million people soon,” she said.
She said more tourists are visiting Armenia from such countries as Germany, Austria, France, Italy, UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain and Israel.
According to her, European tourists usually spend a week in Armenia to have enough time to explore its historical and cultural monuments, while tourists from Russia arrive here for three to four days.
She said visiting Armenia is quite affordable for foreign tourists with the average cost of a seven-day tour being approximately one thousand euro per person. Foreign tourists usually visit the pagan temple of Garni, Geghard Monastery, Holy Etchmiadzin and Lake Sevan.
As for Armenians the bulk chooses to spend summer vacation in Turkish Antalya and on Georgian coast of the Black Sea.
According to the National Statistical Service, the number of tourists visiting the country in January-March 2014 increased by 20.5% over the same period in 2013 to 154,471 people.
At the same time, the number of Armenian tourists visiting foreign countries in the same period increased by 18.2% to 162,073 people.
