U.S. Vice President visits Tsitsernakaberd, deletes genocide mention hours later

(Horizon Weekly) – (Horizon Weekly) – U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance paid a visit to the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial on February 10, honouring the victims of the Armenian Genocide during the final day of his official trip to Armenia.

Accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, the vice president laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, observed a moment of silence, and signed the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute’s Book of Honour. In his message, Vance paid tribute to the Armenian people’s resilience and reaffirmed hopes for closer understanding between Armenia and the United States.

The visit was attended by Armenian officials, including Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Zhanna Andreasyan, Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Director Edita Gzoyan, and U.S. Chargé d’Affaires David Allen.

Shortly after the visit, Vance’s social media activity drew scrutiny. An initial post on X that explicitly referenced the Armenian Genocide was removed and replaced by a brief statement from his press office that omitted the term entirely, describing the visit in general terms.

The revised post appeared as Vance prepared to continue his regional trip with a stop in Azerbaijan.

Vance arrived in Armenia on February 9 and held meetings with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
