Trump thanks Aliyev for Nobel Peace Prize nomination

(Horizon Weekly) – Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has published a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump in which Trump expresses gratitude to both Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for jointly proposing his name for the Nobel Peace Prize.
In the letter, Trump writes: “I am deeply honored by your joint proposal together with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to nominate me for the Nobel Peace Prize.” He adds that the nomination is “a remarkable gesture” and thanks Aliyev for what he calls a shared commitment to peace efforts.
Trump goes on to praise the recent developments between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating: “I am encouraged by the positive steps that our countries have taken toward achieving lasting peace in the region.” He frames the peace process as an accomplishment reflecting the political will of both leaders.
Aliyev’s office presented the letter as further recognition of Azerbaijan’s diplomatic outreach following the announcement of a preliminary peace agreement. The publication is part of Baku’s continuing effort to promote the narrative that regional stability has entered a new phase.
However, observers note that the peace arrangement remains fragile and leaves unresolved the core political, humanitarian, and security issues stemming from the forced depopulation of Artsakh, the illegal detention of Armenian leaders in Baku, and the absence of meaningful guarantees for the rights and future of the displaced Armenian population.
Trump’s message does not address these remaining challenges, and the durability of the agreement continues to face significant scrutiny from analysts, human rights advocates, and the Armenian public.
