Tribute to Armenian Conductor Raffi Armenian at Bourgie Hall of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

Bourgie Hall of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) will pay tribute, on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 7:30 p.m., to renowned Armenian musician Raffi Armenian and his wife Agnes Grossmann..

Born in Egypt of Armenian parents, Raffi Armenian has enjoyed a brilliant career as a musician, conductor and teacher. For several decades, he has breathed new energy and vitality into the Quebec and Canadian cultural scene, while making a significant contribution to the reputation of musical institutions across the country. He was director of the Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal and has conducted Canada’s leading orchestras. He also taught for many years at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where he helped train a generation of conductors whose careers are now flourishing. He has also received several major awards for his contribution to culture and the arts, including an honorary doctorate and the Order of Canada.

This event will provide an opportunity to hear a number of remarkable musicians who are making a name for themselves on the Montreal and international artistic scenes, including Armenian-Canadian soprano Aline Kutan, who has performed on the world’s greatest stages and who will be singing Armenian melodies during this concert. Violinist Van Armenian, nephew of Raffi Armenian, will also take part in the concert. Other exceptional artists include conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni, pianists André Laplante and Olivier Godin, a quartet featuring musicians from the Orchestre Métropolitain, as well as an ensemble comprising musicians from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.

Works by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Berg, Strauss, as well as Armenian melodies.
