The ANCC stands in solidarity with the people of Artsakh, recognizing their fundamental right to self-determination and freedom: Statement on International Human Rights Day

the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) issued the following statement on the occasion of International Human Rights Day

“On this significant occasion of International Human Rights Day, the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) extends its heartfelt greetings to all individuals and organizations dedicated to the promotion and protection of fundamental human rights worldwide. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the shared responsibility we bear in upholding the principles of justice, dignity, and equality for all.

“Throughout the year 2023, the indigenous Armenians of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) faced unprecedented challenges, enduring unspeakable hardships that demand our immediate attention and unwavering commitment to justice. The Armenians of Artsakh found themselves subjected to a 10-month inhumane blockade, exacerbating their already challenging circumstances. The situation escalated further on September 19 when Azerbaijan launched a major military aggression, forcing over 100,000 ethnic Armenians to flee their ancestral land forcibly.

“The Armenian National Committee of Canada stands in solidarity with the people of Artsakh, recognizing their fundamental human right to self-determination and their right to live a life of freedom and dignity. The forced displacement and ethnic cleansing they have experienced as a result of Azerbaijani aggression are clear violations of these basic human rights.

“It is essential to emphasize that protecting human rights should always precede political considerations. The international community must unite in condemning any actions undermining the principles of justice, peace, and the well-being of individuals and communities. The ANCC reaffirms its commitment to tirelessly work towards protecting fundamental human rights, advocating for justice, accountability, and the peaceful coexistence of all people.

“As we mark International Human Rights Day, let us reiterate our dedication to the values that bind us in our common humanity. The Armenian National Committee of Canada remains resolute in its mission to raise awareness, promote justice, and advocate for the rights of those who have been subjected to injustices, including the indigenous Armenians of Artsakh.”
