Text of the draft Constitution to be ready by 2026

The text of the new Constitution should be ready before the new elections, Armenia’s Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan told a briefing today.

The Minister said they expect the text of the draft Constitution to be ready by 2026. After that, a decision will be made on the referendum.

The Minister reminded that the issue of a new Constitution has been on the agenda of the government since the 2018 revolution.

“The changes in the text of the Constitution are different. Issues related to human rights and social protection will be raised. The new version will also emphasize the organizational and legal forms and role of state bodies. To ensure the inclusiveness of the process, we plan to organize numerous discussions with civil society as well. Everyone will have the opportunity to express their opinion,” Galyan noted.

She added that the issue of the powers of the President of the Republic of Armenia will be discussed, while the existing system of governance is not subject to change, in general.
