Tavush movement calls for continued protests against land handover to Azerbaijan

The Tavush for the Homeland civil movement calls for continued protests against the unilateral territorial concessions to Azerbaijan across Armenia following the brutal detention of people blocking the Armenia-Georgia interstate highway near Kirants, a border village in Armenia’s Tavush Province, early on Thursday morning.

“Early on May 2, at around 6 p.m., the police used unlawful violence against the Kirants residents blocking the Armenia-Georgia interstate highway and obstructing the so-called “demining activities” in the area,” the movement said in a statement.

It stated that around 30 villagers, including minors, were brutally detained and taken to the Ijevan police station.

“We call on our compatriots to continue peaceful acts of civil disobedience throughout Armenia in response to these brutal and illegal actions of the police and thereby express their support to the people waging a righteous struggle for their homeland,” reads the statement.
