On May 15, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Erich von Tobel, a member of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation.
During the meeting, His Holiness expressed his appreciation for the support extended to Armenia by the Swiss authorities, as well as their efforts to help the Armenian people overcome ongoing challenges. In this context, the Catholicos thanked Mr. von Tobel for initiating a resolution—adopted by both chambers of the Swiss Parliament—defending the rights of forcibly displaced Armenians from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and calling for their safe and dignified return to their historical homeland.
Mr. von Tobel presented the Catholicos with details of the resolution titled “Peace Forum for Nagorno-Karabakh: Ensuring the Possibility of Return for Armenians”, outlining its objectives and the vision for further steps. He emphasized that the return of Artsakh Armenians is a just demand under international law and stressed the importance of consistently raising this issue in relevant international forums.
The meeting also addressed the significant role of the Armenian community in Switzerland in strengthening friendly relations between the two nations and contributing to the development of Swiss society.
