Sham trial of Artsakh leaders continues in Azerbaijan

A court in Baku continued the show trial of Artsakh’s military and political leaders on Monday.

Former President Arkadi Ghukasyan did not object to the appointment of a new defense lawyer. Meanwhile, defendant Madat Babayan denied any involvement in the so-called “occupation” of villages in the Martakert region.

The court reviewed footage from a celebration marking the 19th anniversary of Martakert’s liberation, in which then President Bako Sahakyan was seen awarding medals to war veterans. While Sahakyan acknowledged the event took place, he stated that he did not know Babayan at the time and only met him during the current proceedings.

Other defendants and alleged “victims” also testified.

The next hearing is scheduled for May 29.
