Peace talk is hollow while humanitarian issues persist: Ishkhan Saghatelyan

Armenian Revolutionary Federation representative and Hayastan faction MP Ishkhan Saghatelyan says unilateral concessions by Armenia have neither stabilized the region nor curbed Baku’s appetite—and that “as long as even humanitarian matters remain unresolved, peace talk is mockery of the Armenian people.”
He emphasized that a country genuinely interested in building trust and lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan must first work toward releasing all detained prisoners in Baku, withdrawing Azerbaijani troops from Armenian territory, and ensuring the right of forcibly displaced Artsakh Armenians to return.
He stated that while Armenia has already made painful and “courageous” unilateral concessions, these have not only failed to stabilize the region but have further provoked Azerbaijan, opening the door to a new war.
He insisted:
- “As long as even humanitarian matters remain unresolved, peace talk is mockery of the Armenian people.”
- Regardless of how many peace agreements or declarations one signs or issues, none will bring peace to the region.
- Historically, no power has achieved peace by conceding all the aggressor’s demands—such appeasement ultimately leads to catastrophe for all.
Saghatelyan noted that all agreements reached so far have been made behind the people’s back and solely with one individual. No political force or respected institution in Armenia supports these agreements or the political course adopted by the regime.
To implement these agreements, the government has repeatedly broadened its wave of repression, increasing the number of political prisoners in the country.
He warned external actors banking on Prime Minister Pashinyan’s never‑ending concessions should know that repression alone cannot suppress public dissatisfaction indefinitely.
