On October 30th, Member of Ontario’s Provincial Parliament, MPP Aris Babikian (Scarborough–Agincourt) paid tribute to Artsakh war veteran and triple amputee Major Sargis Stepanyan in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, recognizing his remarkable courage, resilience, and inspiration.
Major Stepanyan, who lost both legs and his right arm while saving wounded soldiers during armed clashes in Artsakh in 2014, was introduced in the Ontario Legislature alongside his wife, Armenouhi, and Rev. Archpriest Fr. Zareh Zargarian, Diocesan Vicar and pastor of Toronto’s Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church.
“Today in the House we have Rev. Archpriest Father Zareh Zargarian alongside Mr. Sargis Stepanyan and his wife, Armenouhi,” said MPP Babikian during his remarks. “Major Sargis is a triple amputee, Artsakh war hero, arm-wrestling champion, and a real inspiration.”

Following his devastating injuries, Major Stepanyan turned to sports as a way to rebuild his life and spirit, ultimately becoming a world-class arm-wrestling champion and advocate for veterans with disabilities. His life story stands as a testament to human endurance and faith in the face of unimaginable hardship.
During his recent visit to Canada, Major Stepanyan met with members of the Armenian community, including local organizations and institutions, to share his journey of courage, faith, and determination. His story continues to inspire countless Armenians and Canadians alike, reminding all that the spirit of resilience transcends borders and circumstances.
