Malkhas Amoyan wins fifth gold medal for Armenia at European Wrestling Championships

(Horizon Media) – Armenia’s Greco-Roman wrestling team recorded another strong showing at the European Championships in Tirana, highlighted by a gold-medal performance from Malkhas Amoyan, who secured his fifth European title.
Competing in the 77 kg division, Amoyan capped off a dominant run by defeating Ramaz Zoidze of Georgia in the final. The Olympic bronze medalist and two-time world champion showcased control throughout the tournament, opening with a 4–0 win over Karl Baff of Sweden in the round of 16. He followed with a decisive 10–0 victory against Ukraine’s Irfan Mirzoev in the quarterfinals, before overcoming Moldova’s Alexandrin Gutu in the semifinals.
Armenia also added to its medal count through Karen Aslanyan, who earned bronze in the 67 kg category. Aslanyan secured the podium with a commanding 11–0 technical superiority win over Mairbek Salimov of Poland.
In the 55 kg division, Manvel Khachatryan narrowly missed out on a medal, falling 1–3 in the bronze match to a Bulgarian opponent.
Meanwhile, Armenia remains in contention for another gold, as Suren Aghajanyan advanced to the final in the 60 kg category in his senior European Championship debut. The U23 gold medalist impressed with a semifinal victory over three-time European champion Nihat Mammadli, setting up a gold-medal bout against Georgi Tibilov of Serbia.
