Iran warns against any changes in region’s geostrategic landscape

Iran supports the diversification of regional connectivity, including transportation routes and corridors, which would benefit the regional countries, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh announced at the Yerevan Dialogue forum on Monday.

He also reiterated Tehran’s strong backing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, urging the countries to finalize the deal as soon as possible.

“Peace is not just an option, it’s a must, it’s something that we all have to devote our energy and resources for that,” the Iranian official stressed.

At the same time, Khatibzadeh reaffirmed Iran’s opposition to any changes in the region’s geostrategic landscape.

“We don’t accept any change in the geostrategic landscape of the region – let’s call it Zangezur or anything else. We do support anything that Armenia and Azerbaijan agree among each other based on the international law and under the international norms, sovereignty and jurisdiction of Armenia. But it’s very important to mention that nothing should change the geostrategic landscape of this region,” he stressed.
