ICRC staff visits Artsakh leaders illegally held in Baku
Employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Artsakh’s military and political leaders illegally detained in Azerbaijan in late December, the ICRC office in Yerevan confirmed to Pastinfo.
The media outlet reported earlier that the detainees were given the opportunity to exchange family news on December 30, ahead of the New Year.
Eight Artsakh leaders were illegally arrested in September and October 2023 after Azerbaijan launched a military offensive against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), forcing its 120,000 ethnic Armenians to flee their homes.
The Artsakh political prisoners held by Baku include former Presidents Arayik Harutyunyan, Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan, former State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, former presidential advisor David Babayan, last Artsakh parliament speaker David Ishkhanyan, as well as former Artsakh army commander Levon Mnatsakanyan and former deputy commander David Manukyan.
