France opens Honorary Consulate in Armenia’s Goris

The inauguration of the Honorary Consulate of France in Goris took place Monday in a ceremony attended by government officials.

Syunik Governor Robert Ghukasyan, Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan, French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies and the Honorary Consul of France in Goris Carmen Apunts ceremonially cut the ribbon at the French consular agency.

The event was attended by Deputy FM Vahan Kostanyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan, Armenian Ambassador to France Arman Khachatryan and others.

Governor Ghukasyan described Goris as “the most Francophone town” in Armenia, listing the multiple cooperation agreements with French cities and regions.

French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies said the town is “very special” for France.

“For the French, Goris is the crossroads of Syunik. And I think Goris is the town in Armenia that has the strongest ties with France, evidenced by the sister cities, friendship agreements between cities, as well as cooperation between the two provinces [Syunik and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes].

“Long live Syunik, long live Goris and long live the Armenian-French friendship,” the ambassador said.
