Baku TV again falsely presents ancient Armenian church as Azerbaijani heritage
A pro-government TV channel in Baku has once again falsely presented the 7th-century Armenian monastery of Harichavank as part of Azerbaijan’s religious heritage, the Tatoyan Foundation warned on Thursday.
“The Azerbaijani pro-government TV has misrepresented Harichavank, a monastery in Armenia’s Shirak Province, as part of the cultural heritage of “Western Azerbaijan” by distorting historical facts,” a statement on its official Facebook page said.
The foundation shared a video falsely claiming the monastery to be of Albanian origin in an attempt to dispute Armenia’s status as the first Christian nation.
“The video is part of the Azerbaijani state-sponsored propaganda of racism and hostility against Armenians, paving the way for future aggression against Armenia through consistent historical distortions,” reads the statement.
