Azerbaijan verbally accepted Armenia’s principles for peace deal, security chief says

Azerbaijan has verbally accepted Armenia’s four basic principles for a bilateral peace treaty, which rules out any extraterritorial land corridor via its territory, Secretary of Armenia’s Security Council Armen Grigoryan said on Monday.

“Azerbaijani officials have given verbal assurances that they accept the four principles put forward by Armenia, including sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity and equality, which rules out any corridor logic,” Grigoryan told the Public TV Company in an interview.

The security chief said Armenia responded to Azerbaijan’s peace proposals on January 4.

“Positive dynamics are observed, but there are some matters we haven’t agreed on during the negotiations,” he added.

Grigoryan says the Armenian and Azerbaijani border commissions are set to meet in late January.
