Armenian Parliament passes bill on EU integration

The Armenian National Assembly voted today to voted to pass the bill on launching the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union, initiated by a civilian group.

Adopted in final reading with 64 votes in favor – all from lawmakers of the ruling Civil Contract party – and seven opposition MPs voting against, the bill calls on the Armenian government to initiate the process of EU accession.

The opposition Hayastan faction skipped the vote.

The bill was presented to the National Assembly through the civic initiative Eurovote, which collected 60,000 signatures, exceeding the required minimum of 50,000.
