Armenian opposition MP blasts government policies

Opposition Hayastan faction MP Kristine Vardanyan has lambasted the authorities for equating Armenia’s relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan to those with Georgia and Iran.

At a parliament session on Thursday, Vardanyan stressed that Turkey committed the Armenian Genocide and continues to deny it, while Azerbaijan “repeated the same policy in Artsakh”. She noted that both countries openly describe themselves as “one nation, two states”.

Defining sovereignty as control over one’s own territory, the MP questioned whether Armenia’s leadership has maintained it, citing the presence of Russian, Iranian and Azerbaijani flags in Syunik Province. “What kind of sovereignty is this?” she asked.
