(Horizon Weekly) – Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan told reporters that negotiations with Azerbaijan on a potential peace accord are moving forward, though there is still no agreed-upon timeline for finalizing or signing the document, Armenpress reported.
He said Yerevan and Baku remain in regular contact and that communication channels between the sides are continuously active.
On the issue of border delimitation, Safaryan explained that the work is being coordinated directly by the heads of the two national commissions. He noted that updates are provided whenever there is concrete progress and stressed that the technical procedures along the border are advancing without interruption.
When asked whether upcoming stages of the delimitation effort could take place in Syunik, he replied that any such developments would only be announced once decisions are formally made.
Regarding the potential timing of a peace treaty, Safaryan reiterated that it is still premature to discuss dates.
On August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met at the White House, where the sides issued a joint declaration following their discussions. During the same visit, Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov initialled a draft “Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations.” Yet even as the document was ceremonially initialled, the process did not confront the central, unresolved questions stemming from Artsakh, leaving the most consequential issues outside the scope of the Washington framework.
