Armenia holds 59th place in 2026 Global Innovation Index

YEREVAN—Armenia has retained 59th place in the 2026 Global Innovation Index, ranking among 139 economies assessed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

While Armenia’s overall position remained unchanged from 2025, the country registered gains in both major components of the index. Armenia moved to 77th place for Innovation Inputs and 52nd for Innovation Outputs, improving on last year’s rankings of 78th and 53rd, respectively.

Among upper-middle-income economies, Armenia placed 10th out of 35 countries. It also ranked ninth among 18 economies in the Northern Africa and Western Asia region.

The 2026 assessment showed improvements in four of the index’s principal areas: Creative Outputs, Knowledge and Technology Outputs, Infrastructure, and Market Sophistication.

Among Armenia’s strongest individual indicators were labour productivity growth, where it ranked third globally; trademarks registered by origin relative to GDP, where it placed fifth; and creative goods exports as a share of total trade, where it ranked seventh.

The Global Innovation Index evaluates national innovation ecosystems using roughly 80 indicators covering institutions, education and research, infrastructure, market and business sophistication, technological and knowledge production, and creative activity.

Switzerland topped the 2026 global ranking, followed by Sweden, the United States, South Korea and Singapore.
