Arhcbishop Ajapahyan sentenced to 2 years in prison

Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese, has been sentenced to two years in prison. The verdict was delivered by Judge Armine Meliksetyan of the court of first instance, according to Sputnik Armenia.

On September 24, the court found Ajapahyan guilty under Article 422, Part 2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code. At a follow-up hearing on September 29, the prosecutor had requested a prison sentence of two years and six months.

Ajapahyan was charged with making public calls aimed at usurping power, violating territorial integrity, renouncing sovereignty, or overthrowing the constitutional order by force. He was arrested on June 28.
