ARF Canada Central Committee Statement

As part of the development of inter-state relations, a visit to Ottawa from the president of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, and the NA delegation is planned from September 25-30. It is worrying to know that Alen Simonyan’s delegation includes only members of the ruling Civil Contract party, without opposition MPs. The opposition MPs of the Armenia-Canada parliamentary friendship group of the National Assembly of Armenia were intentionally left out of this delegation. This phenomenon itself is a violation of democratic values.
Canadian Armenians have no intention of welcoming the visit of the delegation of the current ruling party, who have consistently violated the basic principles of democracy and human rights in Armenia. The regime’s practice of using disproportionate force against the opposition protesters contradicts the principles of democracy. All these are Condemnable acts for the Canadian society, the flag bearer of democracy.
As a result of the policy adopted by the ruling party of Armenia, reprehensible political losses have been recorded towards our vital national interests. The ruling party has been on a mission to disrupt the activities and endeavors of Armenian National Committees to bring the Artsakh issue back to the international agenda. The Civil Contract administration, with its consistent concessions and defeatist process of border demarcation, have become the henchmen of the Turkish-Azeri political agenda.
We are convinced that the current regime of Armenia has no right to determine the status of Artsakh or demarcate the sovereign borders of Armenia, and for that, once again condemning their destructive course, we see the delegation of the regime arriving in Canada in the coming days as an unwanted mandate.
