ANCC Attends Meeting of Consular Corps of BC
On Wednesday January 11th , Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) Western region representative Vahe Andonian was invited by the Lebanese Honorary Consul, Dr. Nick Kahwaji, to an important luncheon meeting organized by the Consular Corps of BC and Ms. Leslie Teramoto, Intergovernmental Relations Secretariat for the Government of BC.
During the gathering, Mr. Andonian and the Honorary Consul Dr. Kahwaji had private, candid conversations with many of the 40 consul generals and honorary consuls, including from USA, Mexico, Uruguay, Paraguay, Greece, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, India, Japan, Korea, Senegal, Morocco, Iceland, Estonia and Austria.
Dr. Kahwaji helped the ANCC representative to bring awareness to the Republic of Artsakh issue, stressing the horrific actions by Azerbaijan against the indigenous Armenian residents of the Republic of Artsakh, and how the criminal, illegal month long blockade of the Lachin access corridor is having severe consequences on the physical and mental health of the 120,000 residents of the Republic, including 30,000 children.
They called on all nations to support the human rights and right to self-determination and independence of the people of Artsakh, and for the end of the blockade which is being supported by the oligarchic Azeri regime.
They urged the world government representatives to be aware and to speak up about the inhumane treatment of Armenians in and around Artsakh, and to condemn attacks by Azerbaijan on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
Many of the consuls were aware of the conflict in the region, the role of the OSCE Minsk Group, and promised to brief their respective governments to help ease tensions in the region.
Consul Dr. Kahwaji pledged to continue to work with Mr. Andonian and ANCC to bring attention to the Artsakh issue, and to bring pressure on Azerbaijan to honour its agreements from November 2020, end of its inhumane treatment and return of all POWs, and restore free travel through the Lachin (Berdzor) corridor.
